The ShopBot makes scrim! Acoustic Panels!
Fab Lab ABQ's front windows face west. From 3-7 pm during the spring and summer months the space becomes an oven.To avoid going the traditional route of buying vertical blinds which means our facade becomes boring I opted to use what we had. Using the statement below I used a morse code generator to generate the script and by giving the script values created the pattern.
"I want to make things I want to make beautiful things I want to make people's lives beautiful I want to make them unique I want them to feel special I want them to smile because that would make me smile"
Luke Stribling then prepared the files for the ShopBot and within 4 hours we had scrim cutout of 1/4" MDF. The result is sun protection that makes the space comfortable, additionally this has also decreased the amount of heat absorbed throught out the day and eliminates the need to run the HVAC system to cool the space. MDF is inexpensive enough that we can use our facade to experiment with patterns and see how they function. Next on deck are doors, room dividers and a bathroom sink for Kenji's studio/house experiment.
